Cases of money counterfeiting in Ukraine have become more frequent

In the first nine months of this year, the number of crimes related to counterfeiting of money has increased by 20% – to 525 compared to 421 for the same period in 2012.

This was reported by the "Business Capital" in reference to the MIA data, the UNIAN informed.

In total, during January-September, law enforcement officials have confiscated 926 counterfeit banknotes.

848 of them are hryvnias notes (totaling 80,545 UAH), 45 – U.S. dollars, 22 – euro.

Out of the counterfeit notes confiscated this year, only 15 were of 500 UAH denomination, 615 were of 100 UAH denomination.

Most often, counterfeit hryvnias were seized in Sumy region (423), the city of Kyiv (118), Dnipropetrovsk (82), Ivano-Frankivsk (52), Khmelnitsky (51) and Zhitomir (35) regions.

In terms of the number of counterfeit banknotes, as the newspaper notes, Ukraine still lags behind its neighbors.

According to the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, currently, in Russia there are about 15 counterfeit ruble banknotes per 1 million in circulation. In the euro zone countries, the number of counterfeit banknotes is 36 per 1 million, in Ukraine, according to the NBU, only four.
