On this day, 80 years ago, an independent state – Carpathian Ukraine – was proclaimed in Khust. And in Krasne Pole, at the same time, hundreds of Transcarpathian young men were heroically defending the newly established state in an uphill battle.
Today, on the 80th anniversary of the Carpathian Ukraine, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko came to honor the heroes. He addressed the audience and awarded posthumously the famous figure of those times, Stepan Klochurak, with the highest award – the title of the Hero of Ukraine.
In the "Krasne Pole" memorial park, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko took part in celebrations dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the proclamation of Carpathian Ukraine. The head of the state, together with the government officials and the region’s leadership, laid flowers to the Memorial Cross set in honor of the killed Carpathian Sich Riflemen.
This year, thousands of Transcarpathians and guests of the region took part in the assembly in the Krasne Pole, and the landmark event – the 80th anniversary of the proclamation of the Carpathian Ukraine – is celebrated by the whole country. The feat of the Heroes of the Krasne Pole is an important page in the history of Ukrainian statehood and an example of courageous unity for Ukrainians in the current situation of military aggression by Russia.
