For nearly three decades, Canada has been funding humanitarian projects in developing countries through the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). Over the years, the CFLI has not only provided substantial assistance to the people of developing countries, but also helped to establish relationships with these people, their civil society and institutions.
Last year, the Canadian Embassy in Ukraine announced the launch of the program of the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives 2016-2017 and the competitions of grant projects.
The Medico-Social Rehabilitation Center "Way of Life" participated in this competition by submitting an application for the project "The right to employment and the employment of people with disabilities."
The Center won a grant for the implementation of the two parts of the project: "People with intellectual disabilities in the open labor market" and "Printing and souvenir shop."
Under the first part of the project, people with disabilities work in the supermarket Vopak, in the department of vegetable packaging. Currently, it is only two girls and one boy, but the number of employed people will be increasing.
And recently, the second part of the project has started – the printing and souvenir shop opened.
There, they will be doing transfer printing to apply the images onto the fabric, for example shirt, through an intermediate medium – paper or film. Later, they plan to apply colour pictures not only on shirts but also on plates, cups and so on.
In general, labor rehabilitation in the "Way of Life" has been going on for years. In Uzhgorod and the region, people know very well the products made by children and adults from the institution: colorful candles, colored baskets, soap, decorated bottles, a variety of fabric flowers and so on.
Also, another workshop has been opened in the Centre, where the manufacturing of ceramic products will be eventually launched.
