Bread prices in Transcarpathia are not going to increase in the near future

This was announced today, November 23, by the acting head of the Transcarpathian department of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine Pavlo Kalynych. He also said that in the region once there were 17 powerful public bakeries so the bread was in excess. But eventually they started to lose the competition to private mini-bakeries who operated not only in district centers but in smaller towns and villages. 

The last of them – "Uzhhorodhlib" – went bankrupt in 2010, so today in Transcarpathia only private companies carry out baking business. There are 166 registered bakeries, but only 78 of them actually operate. The output produced by these bakeries is enough for the needs of residents of the region.

Also Pavlo Kaltnych remarked that bread market today is stable and controlled, so there is no reason for manufacturers to raise the price of it, as it happened recently in Kyiv. According to the official, after prices of bread have increased by 11% in the capital, by 6% – in Lviv, and by 7% in Mykolaiv, the Antimonopoly Committee began to conduct checks in all regions. 

In all cases the committee considered the rise of this food product unreasonable, therefore entrepreneurs had to return prices back. In Transcarpathia they have not recorded cases of overvaluation, the bread of the highest quality still costs 4.60 UAH per a 700 gram loaf and rye-wheat bread, which is not very popular among Transcarpathians (only 5-7% of the total sold bread), is sold at almost the lowest price in Ukraine.
