Border guards detained an international contingent of illegal immigrants

Last weekend, Chop border guards detained a dozen of "seekers of happiness," who attempted to unlawfully cross the Ukrainian-Slovak border.

During the search activities, using a dog, border guards managed to detect and detain a group of unknown persons, including children.

Daredevils, heading to Slovakia through the mountains, were eight in number. As in most cases, the detainees were unable to confirm their nationality since they had no documents on them. As they explained to border guards, their "team" concisted of five Afghans and three Syrians, including two minors – born in 2009 and 2012. They also said that Slovakia was to be only an intermediate point of their trip to Western Europe.

They will be accompanied by two men who were detained by border guards half a kilometer away from the border with Slovakia. They said to border guards that they were citizens of Georgia, without documents, who were also seeking to enter the European Union.

All offenders, 10 in total, were taken to the border guard unit to ascertain the circumstances of the offense and draw up administrative and procedural documents. The decision on the further fate of the detainees will be determine by court.
