"Book of Ideas" is the title of the guide designed for teachers of journalism and media trainers presented at the Lviv Media Forum. The publication is a project by the FOJO Media Institute from Sweden and the Institute of Journalism of the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University. Separate chapters of the publication are written by teachers from UzhNU: Yuri Bidzilya, Ivan Babushchak, Halyna Shumytska and Halyna Shapovalova.
"Book of Ideas" is characterized, in the first place, by its practicality. Here you can find specific tips: what to do, how to do it as well as how to look like while doing it. The authors of the guide believe that the training of future media people should involve as many interactive methods as possible, and also that journalism can not be learnt by sitting in a lecture hall. "We want to teach independent people who can process complex information, can bring it to the masses, remember that we live in a global world in which you need to see the global in the local and vice versa," – the deputy director of the Institute of Journalism of the Kyiv National University Yuliya Nesteriak said. In her opinion, one of the most important chapters of the book is "Ethics", because "we often forget that ethics norms and values do exist."
Associate Professor of the Journalism Department of UzhNU Halyna Shumytska during the presentation said that "media education is going through some very interesting times." "On the one hand, we can not completely discard the academic component, because then we would not be called university education. On the other hand, we can not help but meet the challenges of our time that we have. We need to prepare a universal soldier, ready to produce quality information product: in printed, radio, TV or online media."
Klass Tur, the author of the guide and teacher of the Swedish FOJO Media Institute, said that "the authors of the book wanted to give inspiration, rather than instructions. And it’s not even a dogma that must be accepted by everyone as the only right way. This is one of the opportunities to learn in new ways and effectively. And also it is a great opportunity to bring journalist education to the realities and requirements of today."
