On August 28, the bomb squad of the special rescue unit of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region completed work for the removal and destruction of explosive items of the World War I period, which had been found in woodland near the village of Lazeshchyna in Rakhiv district.
Some of the explosive items were found by the participants of the expedition, which was organized by the All-Ukrainian public association "Union "People’s Memory." The organization is engaged in the perpetuation of the memory of soldiers who died during the world wars and victims of political repression, as well as search, identification and reburial of the remains of dead soldiers.
The search and removal of ammunition took place from 25 to 28 of August. In total, 65 hand grenades, 25 artillery shells of 76 mm caliber, 8 artillery shells of 85 mm caliber, 7 artillery shells of 100 mm caliber, 1550 rounds of ammunition and five fuzes of the World War I period were destroyed.
