Among the 15 spring events in Ukraine that are not to be missed, the VSVITI suggests two in Transcarpathia. Those are the sakura blossom in Uzhgorod and the Narcissus Valley near Khust.
According to Uzhgorod residents themselves, the regional center of Transcarpathia is the most beautiful in late April – when the flowering of sakura starts, and the whole city is covered with pink flowers. Transcarpathia is one of the few places in Ukraine, where sakura can grow due to its mild climate. Most of the sakuras are on the embankment of Uzhgorod and in the old center, built in the Czech period.
On the occasion of the sakura blossoming, the traditional "Sakura Fest 2015" will be held in the city: the fair "Sun drink", launching of sky lanterns, creative competitions, literary events and more.
In early May, there is another fascinating natural phenomenon in Transcarpathia – blooming of narcissuses in the valley of the same name near Khust. It is a part of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve. It is located on the outskirts of the town of Khust in the Kireshi tract. The valley is unique in that it is a natural array of narcissuses, one of the largest in the world – flowers were not planted artificially, they grow there naturally.
