Blessed Bethlehem Peace Light will be delivered to Uzhgorod by Slovak scouts

Blessed Bethlehem Peace Light is coming to Uzhgorod. According to the tradition, it will be handed over to Plast members. This time, the transfer of the Light will take place on Sunday December 16 from 11.00 to 11.30, in the Holy Cross Cathedral, the Plast reported on its Facebook page.

For the first time in the history of Plast in Transcarpathia, Transcarpathian Plast members will receive the Light from Slovak scouts. This beautiful pre-Christmas tradition – to spread the Bethlehem Peace Light – was launched in 1986 by the Austrian Broadcasting Company ORF from the city of Linz. And immediately this noble cause was taken on by scouts. Every year, representatives of the ORF and the Austrian scouts take the Light at the birthplace of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem, and then transport it by plane to Austria. After the celebrations in the Vienna Cathedral, the Light is passed on to neighboring countries. This year’s transfer of the Light is jubilee, so from Bethlehem it will be transported to the birthplace of the tradition – the city of Linz, and from there the Light will begin its journey across Europe.
