Because of African swine fever, wild boars in Vynogradiv district will be shot

The office of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection of Ukraine in Vynohradiv district reported alarming news: in the tract "Dubky" and the tract "Onika", Lviv Regional State Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine diagnosed wild boars with African swine fever. To confirm the diagnosis, the biomaterial was sent to the State Research Institute of Laboratory Diagnostics and Veterinary Expertise (the city of Kyiv).

The first focus of fever was recorded on the eve of the new year at the hotel and restaurant complex "Chorna Hora" on the outskirts of Vynogradiv. Samples from corpses of three wild boars were sent to Lviv Regional State Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine. They pronounced the verdict and registered the first case of African swine fever in Transcarpathia.

Recently, other focuses of African swine fever were recorded – at hunting grounds "Dubky" and "Onika". Local people do not need to worry: the fever was recorded in domestic animals, and African swine fever virus poses no threat to humans.

In order to coordinate the actions for localization and liquidation of the outbreak of African swine fever, there was the meeting of the state emergency antiepizootic commission at Vynogradiv district state administration, which approved the action plan to eliminate ASF (African swine fever) and defined the limits of epizootic area, protection and monitoring zones.

In order to prevent the spread of the ASF virus and reduce the population of wild boars, a radical decision was taken: to shoot wild boars.

Also at the request of the Main Office of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region, due to complicated epizootic situation with African swine fever, on January 28-29, the traditional (XI) festival-competition of butchers in the village of Hecha was canceled.
