The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko awarded outstanding cultural workers the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine 2014.
The event took place in Kyiv Shevchenko Museum, the press service of the President informed.
According to Poroshenko, the jubilee year of the 200th anniversary of Shevchenko indeed had the spirit of Shevchenko. For Ukraine has "raised and broken the chains."
According to the President, it is very significant that among the winners, there are representatives of different regions of Ukraine. "You, by your origin, place of work, today represent different regions of one country. In your interesting biographies, I saw mentions of Galicia and Transcarpathia, Kyiv and Cherkasy, Luhansk and Donetsk regions. This is our Ukrainian cultural space" – he said.
For Transcarpathians, it is especially important that our countrymen have received the highest award for the second year in a row. In 2012, Ukraine recognized poet Petro Midyanka; in 2013, Miroslav Dochynets was recognized the best writer.
