On 8-9 of January, in the highlands of Transcarpathian region, II (moderate) level of avalanche hazard is expected.
In this regard and for the prevention of emergencies the Office of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region recommends not to go to the mountains during snowfall and and observe personal safety rules. In particular, you should never travel alone in the mountains. It is a fundamental rule, especially during periods of avalanche hazard.
If you are caught in a dangerous situation, during avalanche descend, run away from its path. When going to the mountains, you should carry certified beepers with which you can let rescuers know about your locations.
You need to stay calm and not panic; if necessary, provide assistance to victims, disabled, children of preschool age, other people nearby.
When you hear the sound of avalanche, immediately hide behind a rock or a tree; lie on the ground, cover your head with the arms with elbows pressed to the stomach, directing the body along the avalanche movement and breathe through the clothes.
If the avalanche has caught and is carrying you, try to make swimming motions creating a free space around the face and chest – it will help you breathe when the avalanche stops.
Do not panic and do not allow yourself to fall asleep, remember that you are being searched for and will be saved.
