Austrian narrow-gauge enthusiasts try to save our own Borzhava railway

The head of the Lviv Railway B. Pikh and his deputy A. Efimenko recently met with representatives of the Austrian company "OstGleise" and the NGO "Borzhava Initiative" from Irshava. It was about saving Borzhava narrow-gauge.

According to the head of the NGO "Borzhava Initiative" Denys Dobra, who has been promoting the narrow gauge railway and fighting for its preservation for years, local authorities are not interested and provide no support on this issue, so they decided to come to Lviv.

Denys Dobra said that currently, they have agreed the text of the memorandum of official cooperation between the Lviv railway and the NGO "Borzhava Initiative." The document, in particular, states that the parties shall develop cooperation for the conservation of the narrow gauge railway in the Borzhava river valley by purchasing a steam locomotive and restoration of historic cars. More precisely, they plan to conduct the examination of the rolling stock (locomotive and historic cars), the mechanism of their transfer and their repair, as well as to analyze the number of passengers in suburban trains plying on the route Khmilnyk – Vynogradiv.

At the end, friends of Borzhava narrow-gauge (there is such a group in FB, which unites narrow-gauge enthusiasts from all over world) Denys Dobra and guests Michael Schneeberger and Sebastian Trolle from the "OstGleise" agreed on the examination of the technical condition of C159 steam locomotive which is now kept in Chernivtsi depot and serves as… a monument.  "We are ready to fully fund its restoration and transportation to the Borzhava narrow gauge railway." They plan to go to Chernivtsi in the nearest future.
