Attention, travelers! From now on, the procedure for crossing the border with Europe will be more complicated

On Friday, European Union tightened control at their external borders, – the Mukachevo.net informs

According to the police of Hungary, under the new EU rules, starting April 7, compulsory enhanced check of all people crossing the borders of the Schengen zone will be carried out. This includes nationals of the Member States of the European Community.

Before that, enhanced document check was carried out selectively based on risk analysis.

Now, the changes in EU legislation affect not only third country nationals but also citizens of all Member States of the European Union as well as Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland and their family members.

Border Police now will control free movement within the Schengen area both at the entrance to and exit from the country. Documents will be checked against various electronic databases.

Enhanced document checks will be carried out at the border between Hungary and Ukraine, Croatia and Serbia. At the border with Romania, EU citizens will be subject to random check against the database based on the risk analysis.

Interestingly, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine states that the checks will apply only to EU citizens who cross its external borders.
