At the Ukrainian-Hungarian border a Ukrainian was rid of expensive Italian martini

Instead of two liters of wine, as provided by the national customs legislation, a citizen of Ukraine decided to "quietly" and tax-free carry from abroad 52 bottles of expensive Italian champagne of "Martini Asti" brand (D.O.C.G. spumanti), which costs at least 13 thousand hryvnias – said Victoria Senhetovska, spokeswoman for Chop customs.

However, when customs officers checked the contents of the luggage compartment of the man’s "Mercedes-Benz" minibus they found spirits of Italian production in 52 0.75 liter bottles, which the driver somehow "forgot" to declare and pay the corresponding customs duties.

The violation was documented under Art.472 of the Customs Code of Ukraine and undeclared champagne was seized.

By the way, from the beginning of 2012 Chop customs officers have drawn up 247 reports over violations of customs regulations concerning illicit traffic of almost 13,000 liters of liquor worth 850,000 UAH at the border with Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. The greatest number of violations has been recorded at the customs post "Tisa", on average up to 40 cases of illegal import of wine beverages from the European Union to Ukraine every month.
