Today, at the regional council, there was the meeting of the first deputy head of the regional council Vasyl Brenzovych, the administrator of the regional council executive staff Mykhailo Popovich with the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lviv Jaroslaw Drozd.
The participants noted that the opening of a new visa application center last year in Uzhgorod made it easier for Transcarpathians to solve issues of obtaining Schengen visas through the Polish institution.
They talked about the importance of Ukrainian-Polish relations between nations and regions. In particular, they discussed the issue of the opening of the pedestrian and bicycle crossing point "Lubnya – Volosate" on Ukrainian-Polish border. Since the length of the border with Poland within Transcarpathian region is 32.6 km, but the closest border crossing point is 100 km away in Lviv region.
Jaroslaw Drozd said that this year, two new crossing points would be opened on Ukrainian-Polish border. "The opening of such point in Transcarpathian region, which has the most of international contacts, is also necessary. We have been working on it for years, we will keep on working so that the project will be implemented in the near future" – the diplomat said.
In turn, Vasyl Brenzovych said that it is expedient to intensify a co-operation, since both Polish and Ukrainian parties are interested in it.
The participants also discussed the idea of restoring Days of Ukrainian-Polish Neighbourhood, that once were held in Transcarpathia.
Vasyl Brenzovych thanked the diplomat for Poland’s support of and solidarity with Ukraine in the current situation.
