At the checkpoint “Zahony-Chop”, a 39-year-old Hungarian policeman shot himself in the office

According to the Hungarian media, on June 16, a police sergeant committed suicide using his official weapon. The reports of the incident originally were spread in Hungarian groups on Facebook.

Journalists of the Index appealed to the Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg Regional Police Office and received an answer that the Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg Regional Police is investigating the circumstances of the death under the administrative authority’s procedure, details of which are currently unavailable. Accordingly, this means that in the course of the investigation it will be determined whether the death occurred through suicide, or because of an accident.

The media in Hungary suggest that this case may be related to corruption cases that have been opened against customs and police officers at several checkpoints on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border. Regional media report that the man was 39 years old.
