Art and rock’n’roll (ANNOUNCEMENT)

Influence of art on the musical processes of the second half of the twentieth century. A writer from Odesa Oleksandr Topilov will hold a lecture on this topic.

"In this lecture, we will try to find out how modern art has influenced rock’n’roll and everything related to it. Would the The Monks have become what they became, if it were not for German artists, whom they were close with? Would we know about the existence of The Velvet Underground if Andy Warhol had never seen them?

Attendees will be able to discuss how much Robert Mapplthorpe influenced the career of Patti Smith, what the punk culture and artist John Holstrom have in common, why Captain Beefheart chose to pursue a career in art galleries, rather than in the rock music, whether David Bowie knew anything about painting and what he understood under "modern impressionism".

Howard Finster and his outsider art, Stefan Sagmeister, Hans Rudi Giger, Richard Prince, Banksy, Damian Hurst, Joan Cornella, Tony Oursler – we will try to find out how all these artists are related to modern music to the soundtrack of Talking Heads, Arcade Fire, David Bowie, Lounge Lizards, Captain Beefheart and many more.

We will not answer all the questions, but we will at least try. There will be a lot of good and high-quality music there. And of course, there will be plenty of contemporary art, including slides from the cult mid-70’s New York fanzine "Punk," – the author describes his idea on the event page on Facebook.

Venue: Petofi Square, 11/1. Time: 19.00 – 21.00.
