According to the Foreign Economic Activity Commodity Classification, Ukraine will export products under the names “sparkling wine” and “brandy”.
Ukraine has stopped exporting products under the names "cognac" and "champagne". The first vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine Mykhailo Nepran told about it, the press service of the Chamber informed on December 23.
According to annex 3 of the European Parliament and European Council regulations, countries of origin that may use the names "cognac", "armagnac", "grappa", "brandy de jerez" are France, Italy and Spain. Source.
"Due to the fact that the transition period in Ukraine after the signing of the Free Trade Area Agreement (with the European Union) has ended, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine ceases to issue certificates for beverages under the names "cognac", "armagnac", "grappa", "brandy de jerez", – Nepran said.
According to international law, the use of the name "champagne" is reserved to producers of sparkling wine only in the French region of Champagne, and "cognac" – in the Charente region in France. By signing the Association Agreement with the European Union, Ukraine committed to adhere to international standards for regional indications.
