Construction of the first church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate has begun in Uzhgorod. Until now, parishioners of the Kyiv Patriarchate have had no church in the city.
On the territory near the military unit on Lavrischev street, there is a chapel, where Fr. Serhiy Yemets, archpriest, rector of the Transfiguration Temple, military chaplain from the Chop border guard detachment has been holding services for a couple of years now. He also manages this territory. Many Uzhgorod residents and soldiers come here. But there is not enough space for the services, the construction of a small temple has been being discussed for several years. Finally, there is a progress.
The community received the land back in 2005. Then, they developed the project, had it approved, and waited over 10 years for the commencement of the construction. The community plans to complete the first stage in 2-3 months, its cost is about UAH 1 million. Then, they will have to raise money again.
