A Jeep SUV packed with smuggled cigarettes was detained yesterday by border guards of the department "Vylok" of the Mukachevo detachment near the Ukrainian-Hungarian border.
During the patrolling, the border guards noticed a vehicle moving to the state border. The driver of the car with foreign registration plates ignored the orders of the servicemen and stopped driving only after they had made warning shots. In addition to the driver, there was another man in the car, both citizens of Ukraine. Border guards also found packages of tobacco products in the SUV. The offenders planned to move 14.5 boxes with 7,250 packs of excise-free cigarettes to Hungary across the Botar water canal.
The smugglers’ car and the cigarettes were taken to the border guard unit. Reports on administrative offenses committed by them were drawn up against the men, and the case was sent to court.
In addition, now our compatriots face criminal liability for the crime under Art. 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Illegal manufacture, storage, sale or transportation for the purpose of sale of excisable goods", – the press services and the Mukachevo border guard detachment reported.
