Ancient beeches of Uholka found their rightful place among the giant trees of France, Spain, Ethiopia and Cambodia (PHOTOS)

By publishing photos on the pages of a calendar, the organizers of the contest "Friends of old trees" ("Soncours de photos des arbres vieux") honor the winners, while popularizing old trees and spreading the idea on the necessity for their conservation, the Zorya Rakhivshchyny wrote.

The calendar pages reserved for August and November 2017 will tell the world about the triennial beeches in Tyachiv district. The photographer of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve Vasyl Zelinsky sumbitted his own work for the contest. In late 2016, he was informed by the organizers that two of his works had been selected from among several hundred others. 

"Friends of old trees" ("Soncours de photos des arbres vieux") is an international photo contest which is organized annually by one of the environmental organizations in France. Professional and amateur photographers from around the world send their works. The main condition is that they should feature images of old trees typical for the area. The objective of the contest is to draw global attention to the preservation of trees, especially those that have witnessed several historical epochs. The venerable age of the trees should encourage people, local authorities and governments to preserve this unique natural objects.
