Yesterday, the fencing Grand Prix among men took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The individual competition was a "test" pre-Olympic event (the Olympic Games 2016 will be held in August in Rio).
Ukrainian team brings significant achievements from this competition. And Uzhgorod athlete Anatoly Herey made a significant contribution to the success.
Anatoly and the captain of Ukraine’s team Bogdan Nikishin made it to the top four of the competition.
Anatoly unfortunately lost in the semifinal, but Nikishin defeated his opponent.
As a result, Anatoly Herey returns home with bronze medal, and Bogdan Nikishin won the Grand Prix and gold medal!
Our fencers will also take part in the World Cup in Paris, championship of Ukraine and Europe. And then, the main event of the season – the Olympic Games!
We are proud of our compatriot and will be rooting for him!
