An Uzhgorod resident himself detained a thief and called the police

The police have opened a criminal proceeding over a theft. The thief was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the CPC of Ukraine.

Yesterday, February 11, the police received a call from an Uzhgorod resident, who had managed to detain a thief, who tried to steal a water pump from the basement of an apartment building.

Uzhgorod investigators, as well as patrol police officers arrived at the scene. They found out that at 13:20, on Kyivska embankment in Uzhgorod, a 57-year-old man tried to steal from the basement of a building a water pump, which, according to the owner of the device, costs 3,200 hryvnias.

When the suspect was carying the device from the building, the applicant saw him, and then stopped him and called the police.

The thief was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The material evidence was seized. A criminal proceeding over the incident was opened under Part 3 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is, theft combined with breaking and entering. The choice of pre-trial restraint against the suspect is being decided. The investigation continues.
