An exhibition of contemporary Ukrainian icon painting has opened in Uzhgorod Skansen (PHOTOS)

On the eve of one of the largest Christian holidays – Easter, a magnificent exhibition of contemporary Ukrainian icon painting "Glory" opened in Uzhgorod Skansen.

The exhibition features the works of teachers and students of the Department of Sacred Art of the Lviv National Academy of Arts under the direction of Professor Roman Vasylyk. The exhibition of the department has been repeatedly exhibited in the cultural centers of Ukraine, Italy, France, Poland, Australia, Brazil.

On April 17, 2019, representatives of the department presented their works in Uzhgorod for the first time. About 40 authors presented their works. Icons are made in the classical technique of temper icon painting.   

The exhibition was made possible thanks to the cooperation of the Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life, the Charity Fund "Art Association "Syohodni", the Department of sacred art of the Lviv Academy of Arts and the Serednye Deanery Office of the Mukachevo Diocese of the UGCC. 

Vasyl Kotsan, the Director of the Museum, Bodnar Zsolt, the Consul of the Consulate General of Hungary in Uzhgorod, Yanka Dvoretska, the Consul of the Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhgorod shared their thoughts and impressions of what they saw at the opening. Representatives of the diplomatic services noted the important role of the Department of Sacred Art of the Lviv Academy of Arts in preserving the history, traditions of the Ukrainian people through the art of icon painting.

 

The exhibition will be opened until May 14 in the exhibition hall of the Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life.
