Earthquakes can reach a magnitude of 7.
Seismologists have warned that a powerful earthquake may occur in Ukraine in the near future and it will probably affect Transcarpathia the most, – the narodna-pravda writes.
Seismologist Oleksandr Kendzera from the Institute of Geophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine said that seismic activity, which affects Transcarpathia, usually occurs once every 100-120 years. The last powerful tremors were recorded in 1908.
"Transcarpathia is a seismically active region in which the magnitude of the catastrophe can reach 8. Seismologists emphasize that a new earthquake can be just as powerful, and shocks can begin at any time," – said Kendzera.
What to do during an earthquake,
keep calm, don’t panic;
act immediately as soon as you feel vibrations of the ground or building; falling objects and debris are the greatest danger;
leave the house quickly and move away from it to an open place if you are on the first or second floor;
leave the corner rooms immediately if you are above the second floor;
stand in the opening of the inner door or in the corner of the room, as far away from windows and heavy objects as possible;
do not rush to the stairs or to the elevator if you are in a high-rise building above the fifth floor;
run out of the house quickly but carefully. Beware of debris and electrical wires;
move away from tall buildings, overpasses, bridges and power lines;
stop if you are driving, open the door and stay in the car until the tremors stop;
check for casualties, notify rescuers and provide assistance.
