The Hungarian government called the act of vandalism in Beregovo, where unknown people attacked the Reformed Church, "shocking and outrageous" – the Mukachevo.net reported.
The relevant statement was published by the Office of the Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
In the statement, the Vice Prime Minister and the Secretary of State responsible for national politics said that the Hungarian government is concerned that over the last months attacks on Transcarpathian Hungarians have become more frequent. The largest of thsoe was the attack on the office of the KMKSZ in Uzhgorod.
– At night on Thursday, there place was an attack on an important place for the church life of the local Hungarians, the religious tolerance, which was previously characteristic of residents of Transcarpathia, was violated. The attack is a crime not only against the local Reformed community, but also the temple, where the large-scale reconstruction work has been going on for the past two years, – the statement said.
It was noted that the Hungarian government expresses solidarity with the Transcarpathian Hungarians and expects the Ukrainian authorities to find the criminals to do make efforts to ensure that such cases never happen in the future and that the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia is safe.
The inscription on the wall of the Reformed Church was found this week, almost immediately after the restoration work on the facade of the building had been completed.
