Dog + man. This is the configuration of a team at these competitions. Only together they can win.
Well established contact with the dog is a prerequisite for success, according to the inspector-cynologist of the National Police Dog Training Center in Transcarpathian region Serhiy Svystak, who takes part in the competition with 7-year-old German shepherd Hraf.
This Transcarpathian team showed the best result in the first part of the National Police of Ukraine dog handling championship. The competition started on Tuesday, September 27, in Mukachevo, to the sounds of the orchestra and friendly barking. And an hour later, Serhiy and Hraf overcame the obstacle course flawlessly and with the best time – 59 seconds.
Overall, 26 teams representing almost all regions of Ukraine take part in the tournament, which takes place for the first time. Transcarpathia, as the host, is represented by two teams, Kirovohrad region is not represented for certain reasons, and Luhansk region did not send its representatives because of the operational situation in the region. Also, there are no representatives of the temporarily occupied Crimea. Border Guard and Penitentiary Services send one team each. It is worth noting that among those, who take part in the competion, there are participants of the ATO: both dog handlers and dogs themselves, who performed a variety of tasks at the front, including the search for explosives.
The competition will last for three days. After the obstacle course, the participants will show the skills in following orders. Then, the search work. The third day will be devoted to detention of offender, and dogs will be working in conditions close to reality, including the sounds of shots.
