Alexander Ledyda met Roma leaders

On Friday, April 6, the head of the region Alexander Ledyda met leaders of Roma settlements.

The meeting took place on the occasion of the International Roma Day, which they will celebrate on Monday, April 8. This holiday was initiated 40 years ago, during the foundation of the International Romani Union, reports the RSA center.
International Fund ‘Vidrodzhennia’ provides an opportunity to get scholarships for students of Romani origin and pupils who graduate this year from schools and plan to gain higher education. It is necessary to submit an application to the fund before April 30.
– Only two people of your community have expressed a desire to get higher education so far. We are ready to help in this matter, but initiative must come from you first of all. You should just find such children and the regional authorities will take under control the question of their admission to higher educational institutions, ensured the head of the region, Alexander Ledyda.
The leaders of Roma communities know about this possibility. But as they said, now the problem is that the majority of children finish their studies at school already after the 9th grade.
Children should continue their education in technical colleges in this case, said Alexander Ledyda. The priority should be given to the pedagogical and the medical education in order to give an opportunity for young people to work in clinics or schools not far from Roma settlements. These experts know the problems of their community, for this reason they can solve them more effectively.
The Head of the Regional City Council, Alexander Ledyda, presented the leaders of Roma settlements charters and letters of gratitude to Administration after the discussion of relevant issues.
Awards were given to Yosyp Adam, Aladar Adam, Augustine Forkosh, Ivan Yonash, Istvan Papp and Leonid Brezhynskyy.
