On March 21, 2016, on the occasion of the International Day of Puppeteer, a worhop of Galina Styuflyayeva "Make a rag doll yourself" took place in the Transcarpathian Regional Scientific Library, (Svoboda Ave., 16).
During the workshop, the master told about the origin of rag dolls. The story was visualized by the book exhibition in the library. Thus, visitors of the workshop learned that rag dolls have long been known as talismans. They perform various functions – protection of home, family, children, sleep, and relatives. The first rag doll appeared almost 5,000 years ago. It was not just a toy. It was believed that it protects a person from trouble and misery. A rag doll is different from usual toys in its absence of face. Pagans believed that soul can enter the doll through face. But a soul can be good or bad. People believed that the spirit of the ancestors lives in a rag dolls and that it can pass experience from generation to generation.
The workshop was visited by children and adults, Transcarpathians and internally displaced persons.
"Make a rag doll yourself" is the second joint workshop, organized by the NGO "My Transcarpathia" and the library for internally displaced persons and Uzhgorod residents. The library once again acted as a social platform for communication and exchange of cultural information where in a creative atmosphere residents of the East faster adapt in the community of Transcarpathia.
