Uzhgorod Central City Library hosted the presentation of a unique publication "Millennial tree. Traditional musical instruments of Transcarpathia: musical tradition and modernity," by a known ethnographer, ethnomusicologist, one of the representatives of Ukrainian organology, leading researcher in the field of instrumental music of Transcarpathia, artistic director of the folk ensemble "Uzhgorod" Viktor Shostak.
This book was commissioned by the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine under the program "Ukrainian book" in 2016.
The book contains unique facts about the unity of music and lyrics in Transcarpathian folklore, about musical instruments and musical communication in herding traditions of the region, about the types of Transcarpathian folk instrumental ensembles, about the role of folk musical instruments in traditional local ceremonies of Rusyns-Ukrainians, Hungarians, Romanians, who, having a long common history, continue to nurture the millennial tree of knowledge.
At the presentation. the visitors heard interesting stories about the musical instruments, the traditions and customs associated with these traditional folk instruments.
During the presentation, guests listened Transcarpathian folk songs performed by the ethnographic ensemble "Uzhgorod".
The presentation was prepared and conducted by the librarian of the service department of Uzhgorod Central City Library Adriana Huzak.
