In a time when in most city buses you will not hear anything but Russian pop music, on the route №1, there is a driver who restores emotional balance of passengers with pieces of classical music.
While outside this is an absolutely ordinary bus, it is driven by a somewhat unique man – Yuriy. At the bus stop of the route №1 on Petofi Square, all drivers know about their extraordinary colleague, so it was not difficult for the correspondent of the Mukachevo.net to find him.
"Classical music is a real music – the driver assures. – And I like listening to good music, so I play it to people too."
Yuriy says he prefers opera music, such as Verdi and Rossini. Even while we were tlking, "La Traviata" by Verdi was heard in the bus.
"I’ve been listening to this music since childhood, since about 7 years old. Our whole family likes to sing" – the man says.
But true love for the classics was instilled in him in the Transcarpathian Folk Choir, where he was singing for more than 10 years performing folk and classical music. For a long time he worked as a driver and a singer concurrently. The latter was more of a hobby. But now he sings only at home during family holidays.
Passengers of the bus say they like this repertoire. Mr. Yuriy confirms: "People respond very well – come up and thank, especially young people. They even ask to play it more often."
At the end of the conversation, the man admitted that he would be happy if all bus drivers of the city played classical music, because it is soothing and inspiring, although he knows that not everyone likes it.
