A Ukrainian lost his minivan because of 70 kg of pasta

Our countryman was trying to illegally import from abroad nearly 70 kg of pasta hidden behind the plywood panels in his minivan.

Returning home from Italy by a commercial vehicle "Mercedes-Benz", a 39-year-old resident of Ternopil during customs clearance at the crossing point "Tisa" stated in a declaration that he was carrying only personal belongings. Also, both orally and in writing he assured the inspectors of the absence of any other goods, including that hidden from customs inspection.

Somehow the driver "forgot" about the pasta, hidden in the van … "Armed" with screwdrivers and having conducted detailed vehicle inspection, customs officers dismantled the right and left plywood panels of the luggage compartment, and found 69 packages of Italian pasta products.

So, for concealment of goods, which are limited to import through customs border of Ukraine in large quantities, a protocol on violation of customs regulations was drawn up against the Ukrainian under Article 483 of Part 1 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. Pasta, put up for retail sale in packages of the following brands: "Zi Mari", "Ditali Rigati", "Mezze Penne Ziti Rigati", "Gomiti Rigati", "Fusilli" "Penne Ziti", "Elicoidali", approximately costing 2,600 UAH, was confiscated. In addition, the driver lost his minibus "Mercedes-Benz" model "Sprinter 316 CDI", made in 2005, worth 127,000 UAH, which was used to transport the hidden items.
