A Transcarpathian who had been in hiding from the investigation for more than 5 years was taken into custody

According to the prosecutor of the Tyachiv local prosecutor’s office, the investigating judge took into custody a resident of the village of Velyky Bychkiv, Rakhiv district, with an alternative pre-trial restraint in the form of a bail of about UAH 44,000.
The pre-trial investigation established that in February 2014, the Transcarpathian illegally smuggled three Sri Lankan citizens to Romania. Then, the prosecutor’s office approved the indictment of a criminal offense under Part 2 of Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal smuggling of persons across the state border of Ukraine).
After the exposure, the offender fled and was hiding in Russia for a long time. The other day, officers of the operative unit of the police established his whereabouts and brought him from the Sumy region to the Tyachiv District Court for imposition of pre-trial restraint.
It should be noted that the said citizen has already been prosecuted for theft and illegal possession of drugs.
The pre-trial investigation under the procedural control of the Tyachiv local prosecutor’s office is ongoing.
