A Transcarpathian was stealing umbrella from cafe terraces

Employees of Svalyava criminal police found a man who was stealing umbrellas from terraces of shopping facilities of the district center and villages of the district.

Several entrepreneurs from the district center and villages of the district, including Pavlovo, Rodnykivka and Holybyne, appealed to Svalyava police. The applicants reported that at night, unknown persons had stolen umbrellas from the terraces of commercial establishments. The cost of each of these umbrellas is about two and a half thousand hryvnia. In total, 8 thefts was committed, the amount of loss was about 20,000 UAH. 

Employees of Svalyava criminal police found out that the property had been stolen by a 23-year-old resident of Svalyava. Law enforcement officers found out that the man would dismantle the umbrellas from cafe terraces at night when the streets were deserted. The suspect told that he was selling the stolen goods on the market at lower prices.

Some of the physical evidence was seized by the police, the rest is still being searched for. Criminal proceedings over all incidents have been initiated under Part 1 and Part 2 of Art. 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, ie theft committed repeatedly. This offense is punishable by restriction of liberty for up to five years or imprisonment for the same period. Investigators are also checking whether the thief had accomplices and whether he was involved in the commission of other crimes in the district.
