A Transcarpathian was on trial for illegal possession of weapons

Irshava District Court of Transcarpathian region sentenced a 53-year-old man from a mountain village, who had been detained by officers of Irshava district police department carrying a sawn-off hunting rifle.
 
Law enforcement officials determined that the man had found the sawn-off hunting rifle while harvesting firewood in the forest. He hid the dangerous discovery in the barn, and then decided to go to the nearby village to sell it there. He offered a local entrepreneur in his store to buy it for 200 UAH. However, the man suspected something was wrong and decided to inform the police.
 
Law enforcement officers, after receiving this information, immediately went to the scene where the man was detained at the store, and the rifle was seized. He did not deny his guilt and admitted everything.
 
A criminal proceeding over this fact was opened under Part 1 of Art.263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives). After completion of the investigation, the case was referred to the court.
 
Irshava District Court, having considered the results of the criminal proceedings, pleaded the man guilty and sentenced him for three years of probation suspended for two years. The defendant has no right to leave Ukraine for permanent residence without permission of the penal system.
