Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region together with the police exposed in one of the settlements of the region local residents, who planned to illegally smuggle a group of illegal migrants across the state border of Ukraine to the EU.
The organizers of the trafficking channel received from eight natives of Southeast Asia an advance for their "services". However, one of the offenders decided that that amount was not enough, locked the foreigners in the basement of his private house and demanded ransom.
The illegal migrants were forcibly kept in inhuman conditions as hostages and the offender was "terrorizing" their relatives by threatening with physical violence if they do not pay more money. He filmed his threats on video, thus documenting his illegal activities.
Operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine and the police freed the foreigners. The investigative group is working at the scene. The issue of the opening of a criminal proceeding under Art.147 and 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being decided.
