The band of Istvan Pal, a native of Transcarpathia, "Szalonna" performed at the celebrations on the occasion of the birthday of the heir to the British throne.
On November 14, 2018, the Duke of Wales Prince Charles celebrated his jubilee. The eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, turned 70. On this occasion, a tea party with more than 6 thousand guests took place in the Buckingham Palace.
In the evening, musicians performed for the guests. In psrticular, they invited the music ensemble of the famous violinist Istvan Pal "Szalonna" from Hungary. Istvan is a native of the village of Vyshkovo (Khust district), and often tours in Transcarpathia with his band. His father Lajos Pal was the conductor of the Kyiv Opera House orchestra, and now plays an accordion in his son’s band.
Istvan Pal is the winner of one of the most prestigious musical awards in Hungary – the Ferenc Liszt Prize.
This was the second time "Szalonna" was invited to the Buckingham Palace – the first time, it was on the 60th anniversary of Prince Charles, 10 years ago. It turns out that the royal family is very fond of folk music.
"Playing on the birthday of Prince Charles was a great honor for us. Thanks for the great experience and great reception at the London Ritz Restaurant. Nevertheless, the best feeling was that there was a place for Hungarian folk music and folk dance there," – Transcarpathian Istvan Pal said.
The program of the musical evening included Hutsul kolomyikas, Hungarian and Romanian folk melodies.
