The verdict of Uzhgorod City and District Court in Transcarpathian region against a local resident, who smuggled a batch of potent substances into Ukraine, has entered into force.
The offender was detained red-handed by officers of the Security Service of Ukraine together with the employees of the Transcarpathian customs office at the checkpoint "Tisa" at the end of the last year.
The Transcarpathian bought in Hungary almost two thousand pills and 74 vials of medicines. Returning home by hitchhiking, he tried to carry drugs to Ukraine, hiding them among his personal belongings. The police found in the smuggler’s backpack hidden boxes of pills and vials wrapped in a plastic bag.
Later, the examination established that the seized pills contained a potent drug methandienone.
The court found the offender guilty of an offense under Part 1 of Art. 201 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 5 years imprisonment with a probation period of three years.
