The self-proclaimed commander of the "Ruthenian People’s Army" suspected of infringement of territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine will be tried in absentia.
Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region sent to Uzhgorod city and district court a criminal proceeding against a local resident, who had previously been brought to justice under Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The offender has been hiding in Russia. On his page in one of the social networks, on behalf of the command of the "Ruthenian People’s Army", he called to join its ranks, separate Transcarpathian region from Ukraine and create a so-called republic "Carpathian Ruthenia". The self-proclaimed activists of the fake republic also posted a video where he burns the national flag of Ukraine.
The actions of the citizen were classified under Part 2 of Art.110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine) and Part 1 of Art.338 (desecration of state symbols) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The offender faces five to ten years in prison.
