A retrospective of life (PHOTOS)

Today, in the Regional Art Museum, there was the opening of the retrospective exhibition of People’s Artist of Ukraine Vasyl Gabda. The exhibition became a kind of the visualization of the album prepared and issued on the 90th anniversary of the artist.

Those walls probably have never seen such a concentration of intellectual creativity – both in personalities and in paintings! The collection of paintings by the renowned Transcarpathian fascinated by the land of "blue" mountains, dizzying spring and restless autumn days was presented to the audience without too much officialdom and pomposity. 

The author of the foreword to the album of Gabda’s canvases Mykhailo Syrokhman noted that in the process he had discovered: "Gabda’s autumn, Gabda’s spring, Gabda’s still life – the incredible world that is named "Gabda" – that is, the world of Transcarpathia, which he loved, created and depicted on his paintings."

The exhibition itself includes works of Vasyl Gabda made from the 1950s until the last days of his life. And also photographs from the family album, which contains the history of painting art of our region in faces. And this history, as we know, belongs not only to Transcarpathia… 

The words are not needed when there is art. And now they are few of them. His family now honor his work with love, and it was the main driving force for the creation of the album and organization of this retrospective. The family gratefully mentioned the support from the government, the publishing house, the museum staff, and especially those who thought it necessary to once again touch the history of their art, to worship its grandeur, while remembering the man fascinated by the blue rivers, green mountains, the beauty of his native land – Vasyl Gabda.
