Yesterday, a steam locomotive GR-280, which will be running on the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway in the framework of the pilot project of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine with the support of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration in cooperation with partners from Germany and Switzerland, has arrived to Beregovo.
– Today the locomotive will be unloaded from the railway platform, on which it was transported from the city of Haivoron (Kirovohrad region), and in the next few days, a pilot launch of the "GR-280" will take place on the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway within Vynogradiv district," – Hennadiy Moskal said.
– For the first trip, the locomotive will be "fueled" with beech wood from the Beregovo forestry. From the end of July to the end of August, the retro steam locomotive will be running on weekends and holidays on the narrow-gauge between Irshava, Khmilnyk and Vynogradiv. The locomotive will drive three passenger cars and a cargo car for bikes, small cargo and catering.
Recall that the pilot project with the retro locomotive to popularize the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway was conceived earlier this year.
For reference: Steam locomotives of the "GR" series were manufactured in Germany from 1947 to 1956 as reparation to the Soviet Union’s. Today, there are just a few operating GR steam locomotives in Ukraine, one of them is in the city of Haivoron in Kirovohrad region.
Several other locomotives of this series are set in different cities as monuments.
