A policeman struck an old man: the police officer will spent three years in prison and will not be able to work in law enforcement for two years

3 years of imprisonment with a probation and a ban to take positions in law enforcement for 2 years – this punishment was imposed by the court on a policeman for hitting an old man

By its verdict, Khust District Court upheld the position of prosecutors and convicted a detective of Khust city police of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (the abuse of power or authority by an officer of a law enforcement agency).

According to the Acting Prosecutor of Vynogradiv District Victor Dankanych, the convict, together with his colleague, arrested in a man in Khust to deliver him to the city police station.  The grandfather of the detainee was a witness of these events.

The old man tried to find out the reason for detention of his grandson, and to identify the police officers. Then, the police officer, exceeding his authority, deliberately hit the old man with his fist in the face inflicting him injuries.

According to the verdict, the law enforcement officer was found guilty of having committed a criminal offense under Part 2 of Art. 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced to a three years’ imprisonment with a probation and a ban to take positions in law enforcement for 2 years.
