This became known from the report of the Media Center of Ukrzaliznytsya. Thus, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman supported the initiative of the Ukrzaliznytsya regarding the container terminal at Kovel station and the electrification of the Kovel-Izov stretch. "We have full understanding with the management of the Ukrzaliznytsia," – the Head of Government stressed during his meeting with the railway staff at the locomotive depot Kovel.
According to the Acting Chairman of the Board of the Ukrzaliznytsya Yevhen Kravtsov, Kovel is a key point on the railway map, the modernization of its infrastructure will enable to create a new transit corridor that will become a competitor of the Brest-Malashevichi crossing point. He also noted that now there is a rapid growth of freight traffic between the European Union and Ukraine, so the Ukrzaliznytsya is responding to this trend and developing new freight routes.
According to him, the construction of terminal complexes at Chop station, where goods going to Central and Northern Europe will be processed, has good prospects. "We are considering several mechanisms for interaction with potential partners. In particular, those are the establishment of a joint venture, which the Ukrzaliznytsya will become a party of by provision of a land plot, or a long-term concession of a land plot for the construction of a terminal", – the head of Ukrzaliznytsya added.
