A monument with the image of St. Istvan’s crown was opened in Uzhgorod

On March 19, the opening of a monument with depiction of the Hungarian statehood – the crown of St. István – took place in the Hungarian Consulate General in Uzhgorod.

This mini-monument is devoted to the 40th anniversary of the return of the Holy Crown to Hungary. Before that, it was in the United States. The author of the monument is the famous sculptor Mykhailo Kolodko, who now lives in Budapest.

The bronze crown is located on a marble column located in front of the main building of the Consulate General of Hungary in Uzhgorod. On both sides of the column, important dates from the history of the Holy Crown of Hungary are engraved in Hungarian and Ukrainian languages.

In particular, in 1805, the Hungarian crown was hidden by enemies in Serednye (Uzhgorod district) and in the Mukachevo castle.

At the opening, the consul Laszlo Kuti noted that another interesting object has appeared on the map of Uzhgorod.   Historian, president of the Hungarian Institute for National Strategy Studies, Eno Sas told what the Holy Crown means for the Hungarians – it is the oldest symbol of their statehood.
