The memorial sign is dedicated to residents of the village of Bilky who were forcibly taken away from their homes during World War II. Only few of them returned from concentration camps. The Jewish community of the village of Bilky became known through photographs taken in May 1944 in Auschwitz entitled "Auschwitz Album". These photos depict members of the Jewish community who lived in Beregovo district, including members of the family of Lili Jacob, a native of the village of Bilky, who for a long possessed the only photograph of victims of Auschwitz.
Tokacs Szabolcs, the State Secretary of Hungary’s Prime Minister Office for European Affairs, Dr. Hrezha Istvan, authorized representative of the Government of Hungary for the coordination of cooperation between Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Transcarpathian regions came to Transcarpathia for unveiling of the monument . The opening was also attended by the Chief Rabbi of Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia Wilhelm Menachem-Mendel, the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal, the Acting Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Joszef Barto, Irshava district officials.
The monument was created by sculptor Mykhailo Kolodko and blacksmith Vasyl Kryvanych. The project was implemented by the NGO "Pannonia" with the support of the Government of Hungary, in cooperation with Bilky village council.
The sculpture is a model of a freight car made of forged iron with all proportions observed. In front of it, there are people coming out. Based on one of the pictures from the "Auschwitz Album", Mykhailo Kolodko depicted the moment when the transport arrived at the concentration camp. The car is on the brink of abyss, there is no way either forward or back – this is how millions of people were killed.
