A minibus with forged VIN code was detained by Transcarpathian border guards

Last night, the border guard of the checkpoint "Maly Berezny" detained a vehicle "Volkswagen Multivan" made in 2015 with a forged body number.

During the border control of the minibus entering Ukraine, law enforcement officers had doubts about the legality of its import. So, they initiated an in-depth inspection of the vehicle, during which their doubts were confirmed.

An expert-criminalist of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine was involved in the inspection. It turned out that a plaque with forged VIN code was placed on top of the original one. In addition, the real data on the year of release of the minibus parts did not match the data specified in the registration documents.

The border guards sent the officers of the National Police the report about the offense provided for in Article 290 of the Criminal Code "Destruction, falsification or replacement of the numbers of units of a vehicle".

Based on the expert’s conclusion and in view of the attempt to illegally import the vehicle on the territory of Ukraine, it was confiscated by customs officers. The estimated cost of the vehicle was more than one and a half million hryvnias.
