In the center of Poltava, a mini-sculpture of the cossack Aeneus – the hero of the poem by Ivan Kotlyarevsky "Aeneid" – was opened on the building of the trading house "TsUM".
According to the press service of the Poltava Regional State Administration, the funds for the creation of the sculpture were raised through crowd-funding.
"We decided to submit a project. The local community supported us with money. We needed to raise 18,800 hryvnias, and raised one thousand more. The project was being implemented for seven to eight months. The sculpture was made by Mykhailo Kolodko, a sculptor from Uzhgorod. We received permission to install the mini-sculpture from the owners of the building and the art council of the city of Poltava. There are such scupltures in Kyiv. I hope that the mini-sculpture opened in Poltava is only the first of a series, because we have a lot of colorful characters", – one of the authors of the project Vadim Yamshchikov said.
It is noted that Aeneas, depicted in the mini-sculpture, looks like the character of the 1991 animated film "Aeneid". The author of the cartoon version of the character Eduard Kirych gave permission to use the image created by him and came from Kyiv for the opening.
Under the miniature sculpture of Aeneas, at Sobornist st., 28/13, there is a coin with a trident and inscription "For luck". According to the authors of the project, whoever rubs it will have luck.
According to Valentina Vozhdayenko, the Director of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Regional State Administration, this small sculpture can become the basis for the formation of a new tourist route in the regional center.
During the presentation of the attraction, artists of the Poltava Academic Regional Puppet Theater presented an excerpt from the play "Aeneid".
