A memorial to the soldiers killed in the East was was opened and consecrated in Uzhgorod (PHOTOS)

On Thursday, November 1, the Memorial to the soldiers, who were killed in the East, was consecrated on the Hill of Glory in Uzhgorod.

This was reported by the press service of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.

"On Thursday, November 1, the consecration of the Memorial to the fallen ATO soldiers took place on on the Hill of Glory in Uzhgorod. This memorial shows that Transcarpathians will always remember those, who gave their lives, protecting Ukraine from Russian aggression. It will be always reminding us that our independence has survived thanks to those, who have been, are and will be defending our state on the frontline – in the east of Ukraine", – the press service of the Regional State Administration reported.

According to the participant of the international peacekeeping operations and combat operations in the east of Ukraine, the deputy military commissar of the Transcarpathian regional military commissariat, Colonel Petro Marko, "…Ukrainian soldiers are now performing an extremely important mission – fighting against Russian aggression not only for our country, but also for the entire civilized world."

According to the press service, the Transcarpathian sculptor Vasyl Olashyn was the author of the memorial. According to him, the pyramidal base of the memorial symbolizes the Carpathian fir trees. Around the composition, there are six reliefs that symbolize birth, school period, service in the army, and the central relief is soldiers, volunteers and children. There many symbols of life on the monument, even though it is devoted to the memory of the fallen soldiers, Olashyn told.

According to the official information, 96 Transcarpathians, including 12 ethnic Hungarians, were killed protecting the country from Russian aggression in the Donbass.
