Yesterday, July 21, operatives of the Uzhgorod police department caught criminals who had robbed residents of the regional center. The two men set up an entire procedure for committing crimes – tracking the route and daily routine of the victims, in the absence of the owners, by breaking windows and doors, they would enter into apartments and steal money, jewelry and small appliances because they did not want to attract the attention of potential witnesses.
To sell the stolen goods, they conspired with their acquaintance that he would take the stolen things to the pawnshop. In this way, they would "leave no traces."
However, after taking the necessary investigative measures, the police gathered evidence that proved the involvement of a 29-year-old and a 34-year-old Uzhgorod residents in seven crimes in Uzhgorod. This figure is not final, as law enforcement officers are currently checking these individuals for involvement in other similar crimes in the city.
Now, criminal proceedings have been initiated over all cases. Investigators classify the actions of the criminals under Part 3 of Art. 185 of the Criminal code of Ukraine, that is theft combined with breaking and entering. The burglars face imprisonment for a period of up to six years. The case is under pre-trial investigation, – the communication department of the Transcarpathian regional police informed.
